Description:
A fine chirimen (crepe) silk crepe man's juban (underkimono). Very good condition, with minor imperfections. 52" across shoulders x 47" height. The motifs of pines, bamboo and arabesque motifs on fans and card shapes, are scattered and overlapping. Overlapping card and fan motifs were evident in Japan since the 18th century -- the concept was picked up by European and American artists during the late 19th century.
