Select vintage and antique Kimonos

Item Details
Location:
Japan
Date:
Late Edo to mid-Meiji (1840-1880)
Description:
This antique kimono would have been one of the earlier rayon examples that were introduced to Japan in the early 20th century. At that time rayon was considered to be more valuable than silk, and thus was commisioned by some wealthier families. The design features brush-painting with some metallic-thread couching. There are five large mon (family crests). Very good condition: the sleeves have been brought up many years ago, but this can easily be reversed merely be unstitching some threads. 43" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 44" height.
