Item Details
Location:
Japan
Date:
Late Meiji period (1880-1910)
Description:
A fine high-quality kinsha (fine crepe) silk kurotomesode featuring three elegant standing cranes beside a stream. Fine yuzen-painting with extensive gold-colored painted highlights. Padded hem. Five mon (family crests). Very good condition, with minor imperfections. 51” from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 64” height. The artist could have gone the typical and obvious route and used blue for the stream, so the use of red instead for a water motif is significant and rare, likely having auspicious connotations.
