Description:
An unusual silk kimono featuring mountain and waterfall landscape scenes that consist of pre-screened black and white outlines, with all the other colors laboriously hand-painted with pigment dyes. Some sections have highlights in the form of parallel gold and silver metallic supplementary threads (see "detail closer" image). 49" from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 57" height. Roughly 85% of Japan is covered by mountainous terrain, and thus mountains feature prominently in art that is landscape-based.
