Item Details
Taisho period (1912-1926)
A fine kinsha (fine crepe) silk formal light jacket featuring on it’s inside a painted stormy cloud scene with emerging dragon. Five mon (family crests), so a formal haori worn at important functions. It is customary for men’s haori to contain dark plain exteriors and patterned interiors, however, this example is exceptional in several ways – the artwork is of the highest quality, and fills the entire back and front of the inside, including the sleeves. Typically, men’s haori have the artwork created on a separate silk cloth that lines the inside, not on the actual unlined back as on this example. 50” from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 32” height.
