An unusual kinsha (fine crepe) silk kimono that is assumed to be a kurotomesode. This unique kimono features Rinpa-influenced scenes of sages and attendants accomplished with yuzen-painting, freehand pigment and sumi-e painting, gold outlining and bokashi shading. The art is of a very high quality, suggesting that a top painter of the period was involved. The susomawashi (lower inner lining) is also covered with this artwork. Five mon (family crests). The quality of silk, spinning and weaving are of the best quality. As this kimono would have been very expensive to create, likely it was commissioned by a very wealthy family was involved. 52” from sleeve-end to sleeve-end x 62” height.
