A rinzu (figured silk; damask) silk kimono featuring bold yellow and magenta vertical wavy patterns, with karakusa (arabesque) and Tsubaki (camellia) motifs. The curvature of these motifs contrast against the straight-edged sayagata (arranged swastikas) figured silk ground fabric. The upper inner lining (doura) is of hand-spun and woven silk, while the lower lining (hakkake) is of kinsha (fine crepe). 51” across shoulders x 59” height. The extremely bold colors on this kimono hearken to those of the pop art movement that would arrive to the world in later decades.
