This rinzu silk kimono showcases meticulously crafted yuzen and freehand painted motifs featuring karahana flowers and fierce lions. Each lion motif is individually hand-painted without stenciling, showcasing the masterful skill of the artist. Additionally, some karahana flower motifs include red and silver metallic threads inserted horizontally to enhance highlights. There are several light yellowish stains present on the front side.
Measuring 48 inches (122 cm) from sleeve-end to sleeve-end and standing at 58 inches (147 cm) in height, this kimono features the karahana motif, a flower with origins tracing back to the Silk Road and China. Lions, as depicted here, hold significance in Buddhist art, symbolizing the 'voice of law' due to the symbolism associated with the lion's roar.
